Homemade baked beans in tomato sauce
Having homegrown dried beans around is great! You can use them for so many dishes. This is one of my simple favorites, baked beans in tomato sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups (around 4 dl) of dried beans, for example borlotti, cannellini or brown beans
- 2 cups (around 5 dl) of homemade tomato sauce with garlic and onion
- chili
- 1/2 cups (1 dl) olive oil
- salt
- pepper
- Turkish yogurt
This simple dish is made with beans and homemade tomato sauce. If you grow your own food, use the ingredients from your garden. If not, just get everything you need from the store. You can use any kind of dried beans like black beans, large white beans, brown beans or kidney beans. Just use your favorite type of beans. I used regular brown ones for this homemade baked beans recipe.
Instructions:
Soak the beans in a good amount of water over night.
Boil the beans in new water for around 30 minutes, or until they are cooked through but still a bit chewy. The water should just cover the beans, you don't need more than that.
Turn the oven to 350 degrees (180 degrees Celsius.)
Remove the water but save it for later.
Mix the beans, tomato sauce and chili.
Put everything on an oven tray.
Pour the water you used to boil the beans over the tomatoes and bean mix.
Add the olive oil.
Bake the beans for 45 minutes.
Pour the beans in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.
I served the beans with a Turkish yogurt sauce, pepper and some salt, and chopped parsley.
Serve the homemade baked beans with some toast and a salad, or use it as a side to a vegetable dish with need of some extra protein. These kinds of dishes usually taste their best on day two I think. Enjoy!
